The HIV Unwrapped 2026 WA Regional Roadshow brought 40 years of WA’s HIV history, stories and community action to two regional communities. Delivered by WAAC with local partners, the Roadshow aimed to bring conversations about HIV into regional contexts and challenge ongoing stigma.

At the heart of the Roadshow was storytelling. Historical posters and materials from WAAC and the West Pride Archives showcased WA’s community-led HIV response, from activism and peer support to advances in prevention, treatment and care. These stories were strengthened by three HIV Unwrapped WA garments focused on research by Professor Silvana Gaudieri, Dr Gemma Crawford and Dr Corie Gray, covering research across HIV immunogenetics, migration, mobility and community health. The three garments were presented alongside a retrospective exhibition celebrating 40 years of WA’s HIV response and HIV Oral Monologues, a short-film series sharing the experiences of people living with HIV.

In Geraldton, WAAC partnered with Desert Blue Connect to host the Health, Rights and Resilience Community Sundowner. The evening brought together the local community to connect, learn and reflect. The event attracted strong community attendance and local media coverage. In WA’s South West, WAAC partnered with WA Country Health Service to incorporate HIV Unwrapped into two professional development dinners for General Practitioners. Together, the Roadshow showed how art, history and lived experience can bring HIV education to life.
